What is the official title of The Big Bang Theory opening theme?

The official title of The Big Bang Theory opening theme is “Big Bang Theory Theme.”

The song was written and performed by Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies for the CBS sitcom. Its lyrics compress the history of the universe, Earth, and life into a fast, humorous opening, making the track a particularly direct musical match for a show about physicists and cosmology.

The title causes confusion because many fans and unofficial listings call the song “The History of Everything,” a phrase associated with its lyrics and subject matter. However, the commercially released single and the show’s reference material identify the track as “Big Bang Theory Theme.” The full-length version was released in 2007, while viewers usually hear a much shorter excerpt over the opening credits.

The title should also not be confused with the television series itself. The show is titled The Big Bang Theory; the song title omits the initial “The.” That small difference is why “Big Bang Theory Theme” is the precise answer when the question asks for the official title.
