House’s apartment number in House M.D. is 221B, echoing Sherlock Holmes’s address at 221B Baker Street.
The address is one of several deliberate connections between Gregory House and Sherlock Holmes. Both characters are highly analytical investigators who solve unusual cases through observation and deduction, and both have a close friend who provides companionship and perspective: James Wilson in House M.D. and John Watson in the Holmes stories.
House’s apartment is shown as a private space where his habits and relationships can be explored away from the hospital. The number is a literary reference rather than an indication that House lives in London. The series places its hospital and main character in New Jersey.
The Holmes connection also appears in names and plot details, including House’s surname and the use of music and drug dependence as character parallels. The address should not be confused with 221A, a common variant mistakenly supplied by viewers familiar with Baker Street references.
