What is the nationality of The Who?

The Who are English, having formed in London, England, in 1964.

The band's classic lineup consisted of vocalist Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. Their origins were in the London music scene, where they developed from an earlier group called The Detours. Although the members are often broadly described as British, “English” is the more precise answer for the band's national identity and origin.

The Who became one of England's most influential rock groups, helping popularise loud, energetic performances and ambitious album-length concepts. Their English identity is sometimes confused with the nationality of their audience, collaborators or recording markets; they were not American, Irish or Scottish.
