What is the name of YouTube's short-form video section?

YouTube’s short-form video section is called YouTube Shorts.

YouTube developed Shorts as its answer to the growing popularity of TikTok and other vertical-video platforms. The service began testing the format in India on September 15, 2020, shortly after TikTok was banned there, before expanding the beta to the United States in March 2021 and launching it worldwide in July 2021.

Shorts are generally vertical videos designed for quick, mobile viewing and discovery through a dedicated Shorts feed. They were originally limited to 60 seconds, but YouTube increased the maximum length to three minutes in September 2024. That change means “short-form” now describes the format and viewing experience more than an especially strict one-minute limit.

A common mix-up is confusing Shorts with YouTube’s regular video platform or with Instagram Reels and TikTok. Those are competing services; YouTube’s own short-video section is specifically YouTube Shorts.
