What is the name of the world's tallest building, completed in Dubai in 2010?

The story behind the answer

Burj Khalifa is the world's tallest building, completed in Dubai in 2010.

The skyscraper rises 828 metres above the ground and forms the centrepiece of Downtown Dubai. It was designed by the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith serving as the chief architect. Its structural system uses a buttressed-core design that provides stability at extreme height.

Construction began in 2004, and the building opened on 4 January 2010. It was originally known during construction as Burj Dubai, but its name changed to Burj Khalifa at the opening ceremony in honour of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, then ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates.

The tower is often confused with the Shanghai Tower, which is the world's second-tallest completed building. Burj Khalifa's height includes its architectural spire; its occupied floors and roof heights are measured separately in architectural rankings.
