Manufactured in the game’s lore by Lastimosa Armory, the R-301 is one of Apex’s most recognizable weapons. Its default automatic mode makes it effective in close and medium-range fights, while an alternate semi-automatic setting gives players more control when conserving ammunition or taking careful shots.
The R-301 uses Light Rounds, the ammunition type generally associated with fast-firing weapons that deal moderate damage per bullet. Its combination of manageable recoil, accurate handling, and familiar assault-rifle behavior has made it a frequent recommendation for newer players.
Players sometimes confuse it with the VK-47 Flatline or Hemlok Burst AR because all three are assault rifles. The Flatline uses Heavy ammo, while the Hemlok is primarily a burst-fire rifle. The Spitfire also uses Light ammo, but it is a light machine gun rather than an assault rifle, making the R-301 the single canonical answer.
