Answer
Borg-Warner Trophy
Answer
Borg-Warner Trophy
The trophy awarded to the Indianapolis 500 winner is the Borg-Warner Trophy.
BorgWarner commissioned the sterling-silver trophy in 1935, and it was first presented after the 1936 race to Louis Meyer. The trophy commemorates every Indianapolis 500 winner with a sculpted likeness, along with the driver's name, victory year, and average speed.
The original perpetual trophy remains at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum rather than traveling home with each champion. Since 1988, winners have received an 18-inch replica popularly called the “Baby Borg.” A separate replica is also presented to the winning car owner.
A common mix-up is the Strauss Trophy, which was awarded to Indianapolis 500 winners before the Borg-Warner Trophy became the official prize. The Wheeler-Schebler Trophy was different again: it honored the leader at the 400-mile mark, not the race winner.
