Mater is the name of the tow truck in Pixar’s Cars films. He lives in Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen’s closest friend after helping the stranded racer understand the town’s community.
Mater’s full character name is commonly presented as Tow Mater, a pun on “tomater,” an informal pronunciation of “tomato.” He is rusty, enthusiastic, and often confused, but he is also loyal and surprisingly capable.
Larry the Cable Guy provides Mater’s voice. Mater plays a major role in all three main Cars films, including an international spy adventure in Cars 2 and a supporting role in Lightning’s training story in Cars 3.
