What is the name of the sultan's kingdom in Aladdin?

The story behind the answer

The sultan’s kingdom in Aladdin is called Agrabah.

Agrabah is the fictional Middle Eastern city-state ruled by Jasmine’s father, the Sultan. Much of the 1992 film takes place there, including the royal palace, the marketplace where Jasmine meets Aladdin, and the streets where Aladdin survives as a thief. The city also anchors the film’s social contrast between palace life and the crowded marketplace.

The spelling is Agrabah, not Agrabar or Agraba. Baghdad is a real Iraqi city and is sometimes mentioned in discussions of the film’s inspirations, but it is not the kingdom named in Disney’s story. Agrabah is a fictional setting rather than a historical country, and the film intentionally blends visual and musical influences from several parts of the Middle East and South Asia.

Jasmine is introduced as the Princess of Agrabah, while Aladdin is an outsider who eventually becomes connected to the royal family. In the original film’s ending, the Sultan changes the marriage law so Jasmine can marry Aladdin.
