The short story collection containing both “The Body” and “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” is Different Seasons.
Published in 1982, Different Seasons collects four Stephen King novellas that emphasize drama, crime, and human relationships more than supernatural horror. “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” follows Andy Dufresne through Shawshank State Penitentiary, while “The Body” follows four boys who set out to find the corpse of a missing child.
The collection also includes “Apt Pupil,” about a disturbing relationship between a teenager and a former Nazi, and “The Breathing Method,” a strange story involving childbirth and an unusual medical technique. Each novella carries a seasonal subtitle, such as “Hope Springs Eternal” and “Fall from Innocence.”
Two of the stories became especially famous through film adaptations. “The Body” became Stand by Me in 1986, and “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” became The Shawshank Redemption in 1994. The collection is often confused with Night Shift or Four Past Midnight, which are different Stephen King story collections.
