The Arabian Sea is a marginal sea of the northern Indian Ocean. India forms its eastern boundary, while Pakistan and Iran lie to the north, the Arabian Peninsula lies to the west, and Somalia borders it to the southwest. It covers about 3.86 million square kilometres and reaches depths of more than 5,000 metres.

The name is tied to the Arabian Peninsula, but the sea is also central to South Asian geography and history. For thousands of years, sailors used its seasonal monsoon winds to travel between East Africa, Arabia, India, and Southeast Asia.
