The script Tolkien used for many Elvish writings in Middle-earth is called Tengwar.
Tengwar is a writing system created by the Elf Fëanor in Tolkien’s fictional history. Its letters, or tengwa, are arranged according to a structured system that represents sounds rather than simply copying the appearance of ordinary alphabets.
Tolkien designed the script as part of his broader work on invented languages. It can be used to write several languages, including Quenya and Sindarin, and the exact values of its signs vary according to the language and mode being used.
Tengwar is often confused with Cirth. Cirth is another Tolkien-created writing system, made from angular runes and associated especially with Dwarves and inscriptional writing. Both appear in Middle-earth, but they are distinct scripts.
