What is the name of the Romulan homeworld?

The story behind the answer

The Romulan homeworld is Romulus. In Star Trek continuity, Romulus is the principal homeworld of the Romulans, a civilization descended from Vulcans who left their ancestral world after rejecting Surak’s teachings of logic and emotional control.

Romulus is part of a binary planetary system that also includes Remus, the homeworld of the Remans. The two worlds are neighbors, but they are not interchangeable: Romulus is associated with the Romulan ruling class and government, while Remus is depicted as harsher and more industrialized, with the Remans occupying a subordinate position.

The Romulans first appeared in the original-series episode “Balance of Terror,” which established them as descendants of Vulcan emigrants and introduced their long conflict with the Federation. Their resemblance to Vulcans—including pointed ears—reflects their shared ancestry, not a political alliance.

In the 2009 film Star Trek, Romulus is destroyed by a supernova in 2387. That event becomes an important part of the backstory and emotional history of later Star Trek stories.
