Answer
Godavari
What is the name of the river near Panchavati? The river near Panchavati is the Godavari.
Panchavati is the forest settlement where Rama, Sita and Lakshmana lived during their exile. In the Ramayana, the site is associated with the Godavari, one of India's major rivers, and with Agastya's nearby hermitage and the wider Dandaka forest.
The Godavari rises near Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra and flows about 1,465 kilometres eastward before reaching the Bay of Bengal. Because of its size and sacred associations, it is often called Dakshina Ganga, or the Southern Ganges.
The Ganges is a common distractor because it is India's most famous sacred river, while the Yamuna is linked with northern India and Krishna traditions. Saraswati is primarily known in epic and religious tradition as a sacred, partly mythic river rather than the river associated with Panchavati.
