Paldea is the region featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
The ninth-generation role-playing games were released for Nintendo Switch in November 2022. Their open-world setting, Paldea, contains cities, towns, wilderness areas, and three major story routes that players can explore in a flexible order.
Paldea is inspired by the Iberian Peninsula, particularly Spain and Portugal. Its academy setting, architecture, names, and geography reflect that influence. The games also introduced regional forms, new Pokémon, and the Terastal phenomenon, which changes a Pokémon's battle properties.
Paldea is different from Galar, the region of Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Kalos, the region of Pokémon X and Y. Hisui is the historical version of Sinnoh shown in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so it is not the setting of Scarlet and Violet.
