Helheim is the realm where the dead are held in God of War Ragnarök.
Helheim is one of the Nine Realms visited during the game. It is presented as a cold, bleak domain associated with the dead and ruled by Hel, whose role and identity are adapted in the game’s mythology. Kratos and Atreus travel there during important story events as well as combat encounters.
The realm’s name is easy to confuse with Niflheim, another cold realm in the series. Niflheim is characterized by poisonous mist and specialized challenge areas, while Helheim is the realm associated with the dead. Muspelheim is instead a fiery realm built around combat trials, and Svartalfheim is associated with the dwarves.
God of War’s realm system combines recognizable Norse names with original geography, characters, and plot details. The game allows travel to all nine realms, although access and available areas depend on story progress and abilities.
