What is the name of the realm of the Vanir gods?
Answer
Vanaheimr
Answer
Vanaheimr
The realm of the Vanir gods is called Vanaheimr, meaning “home of the Vanir.” The Vanir are a group of Norse deities associated especially with fertility, prosperity, wisdom, and the ability to perceive the future.
Vanaheimr appears in Old Norse sources including the Poetic Edda and Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda. In the poem Vafþrúðnismál, Odin asks where the god Njörðr came from, and the answer identifies Vanaheimr as his place of origin. The Prose Edda likewise says that Njörðr was raised there before becoming a hostage among the Æsir.
The Vanir are best known through Njörðr and his children Freyr and Freyja. Their conflict with the Æsir, called the Æsir–Vanir War, ends through a peace settlement and exchange of hostages. This helps explain why the two divine groups later overlap in the surviving myths.
Modern summaries often list Vanaheimr among the Nine Worlds, but the surviving texts do not provide one universally agreed, complete list or a precise map of every realm. Its role as the Vanir’s homeland, however, is the standard answer.
