The puppet used by the killer in the Saw film series is named Billy.
Billy is a ventriloquist-style puppet that appears in videotaped messages and on screens to communicate instructions from John Kramer, the killer known as Jigsaw. The puppet’s black hair, white face, red spiral cheeks, and formal clothing make it an instantly recognizable symbol of the franchise.
Although Billy delivers messages, he is not the human killer. John Kramer designs the traps and uses the puppet as a theatrical messenger. This distinction is important because “Jigsaw” refers primarily to Kramer’s alias, not the puppet’s name.
The puppet was created for the original Saw short film and feature film by production designer Charlie Clouser and the filmmaking team. Its design became one of the franchise’s most enduring visual elements and appeared in promotional material, merchandise, and later installments.
