The protagonist of The Legend of Korra is Korra.
Korra is the title character of Nickelodeon’s animated sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. She is the Avatar’s immediate reincarnation after Aang and serves as the spiritual bridge between the human and spirit worlds. Her central responsibility is maintaining balance, peace, and harmony across a rapidly changing world.
At the beginning of the series, Korra is seventeen and lives in the Southern Water Tribe. She has already mastered waterbending, earthbending, and firebending, making her an unusually advanced young Avatar. She travels to Republic City to learn the one element she has not yet mastered: air.
Korra is sometimes confused with earlier figures in the Avatar cycle. Aang is her predecessor, Roku is an earlier Avatar, and Katara is one of Aang’s allies and Korra’s waterbending teacher. Korra’s story follows her struggles with political upheaval, spiritual uncertainty, trauma, and the challenge of redefining what the Avatar must be in a modernizing world.
