What is the name of the protagonist in Star Wars: Dark Forces?

The protagonist in Star Wars: Dark Forces is Kyle Katarn. He is a former Imperial soldier who becomes a mercenary working with the Rebel Alliance, and the game follows his missions against the Empire and the Dark Trooper Project.

Kyle's history helps explain his unusual position in the Star Wars universe. He initially joined the Imperial Army after believing that Rebels had killed his parents. He later learned that the Empire was responsible, defected, and escaped with Jan Ors, a Rebel agent who became his partner.

Dark Forces begins with Kyle helping recover the Death Star plans, then sends him against Imperial weapons programs, Jabba the Hutt's criminal network, and General Mohc's Dark Troopers. Kyle ultimately confronts Mohc aboard the Arc Hammer and destroys the project.

A common mix-up is choosing Luke Skywalker or Han Solo because both are central Star Wars heroes. They appear elsewhere in the franchise, but Kyle Katarn is the playable lead and narrative protagonist of Dark Forces. The character also returns in Jedi Knight and later Star Wars stories.
