What is the name of the princess in Aladdin?

The story behind the answer

The princess in Aladdin is named Jasmine.

Jasmine is the daughter of the Sultan and the Princess of Agrabah in Disney’s 1992 animated film. Frustrated by palace confinement and a law requiring her to marry a prince, she disguises herself and visits the marketplace. There she meets Aladdin, beginning the central romance and conflict of the story.

Jasmine is not the Sultan, who is her father and Agrabah’s ruler. Jafar is the royal vizier and villain, while Iago is Jafar’s talking parrot and accomplice. These characters all belong to the palace plot, which makes them understandable wrong options but not alternative names for the princess.

Jasmine was created by Ron Clements and John Musker with the film’s writing team. Her character draws partly on Badroulbadour, the princess in the “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” tale from One Thousand and One Nights. Linda Larkin provides Jasmine’s speaking voice in the original film, while Lea Salonga sings her songs.
