What is the name of the place where memories are stored?

In Inside Out, memories are stored in Long Term Memory. The film imagines it as a vast, maze-like region filled with shelves of glowing memory orbs collected throughout Riley’s life.

At the end of each day, Riley’s experiences are represented by colored spheres and transported away from Headquarters. The most important memories can become “core memories,” which help power major parts of her personality, while ordinary memories remain in the larger long-term collection.

Long Term Memory is one of the film’s playful brain locations, alongside Headquarters, Imagination Land, the Subconscious, and the Memory Dump. When memories are no longer recalled, they can fade and eventually be discarded in the Memory Dump, where forgotten information disappears.

The movie’s terminology is imaginative rather than a literal map of neuroscience.
