What is the name of the park at the base of the Eiffel Tower?

The park at the base of the Eiffel Tower is the Champ de Mars, a broad public greenspace stretching toward the École Militaire in Paris. The tower occupies its northwestern end, beside the Seine and across from the Trocadéro.

The name comes from Campus Martius, the Field of Mars in ancient Rome. Before becoming a park, the area was used as a military drilling and marching ground for the École Militaire, founded in the eighteenth century. Its large, open layout later made it ideal for major public celebrations and international exhibitions.

The Champ de Mars hosted several World's Fairs, including those of 1867, 1878, 1889, 1900, and 1937. It also witnessed important events during the French Revolution, including the 1790 Fête de la Fédération. Visitors sometimes confuse it with the nearby Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel railway station, but that is a transport stop named after the park.
