What is the name of the official silver bullion coin of the United States?

The story behind the answer

The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States.

The United States Mint introduced the program in 1986 under the authority of the Liberty Coin Act. The standard bullion version contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and has a legal-tender face value of $1, although its metal value and trading price are far higher than one dollar.

The coin’s obverse originally used Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design, first created for the U.S. half dollar in 1916. The reverse originally showed a heraldic eagle, while a redesigned reverse featuring an eagle in flight began appearing on bullion issues in 2021. Proof and uncirculated collector versions are also produced.

The alternatives in the question are official bullion coins of other countries: Britannia is British, Kookaburra is Australian, and Maple Leaf is Canadian. The American Silver Eagle is not the same as every U.S. silver commemorative coin; it is a distinct bullion program struck by the U.S. Mint.
