What is the name of the New York Mets' home stadium?

The story behind the answer

The New York Mets’ home stadium is Citi Field.

Citi Field is in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City. It opened in 2009 as the Mets’ replacement for Shea Stadium, which had served as the club’s home from 1964 through 2008. The Mets played their first regular-season home game at Citi Field on April 13, 2009, against the San Diego Padres.

The ballpark’s design includes several references to New York baseball history. Its exterior recalls Ebbets Field, the former home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, while the Jackie Robinson Rotunda honors the Dodgers legend who broke MLB’s modern color barrier. Green seats and other design elements also nod to the Polo Grounds, where the Mets temporarily played when they began in 1962.

Citi Field hosted the 2013 MLB All-Star Game. Shea Stadium is the most common mix-up: it was the Mets’ previous home, not their current one. Yankee Stadium is home to the New York Yankees.
