What is the name of the musical episode in season 7?

The musical episode in season 7 is titled “Song Beneath the Song.” It is the eighteenth episode of the season and is also known as “Grey’s Anatomy: The Music Event.”

Written by series creator Shonda Rhimes and directed by Tony Phelan, the episode premiered on ABC on March 31, 2011. Its story follows Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins after a serious car accident, while the hospital team works to save Callie’s life. The music reflects the characters’ emotions and heightened perceptions during the crisis.

The cast performs songs previously associated with Grey’s Anatomy, including “Chasing Cars,” “How to Save a Life,” “The Story,” and “Running on Sunshine.” Sara Ramirez’s performance of “The Story” became one of the episode’s most remembered moments.

The title can be confused with the soundtrack’s alternate promotional name, “Grey’s Anatomy: The Music Event.” That phrase identifies the television event and soundtrack, while “Song Beneath the Song” is the episode’s official title. It was the series’ first musical episode.
