The MotoGP series for electric motorcycles is called MotoE.
MotoE began as the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup in 2019 and was created as an electric-powered support class for selected MotoGP events. Its motorcycles use electric motors rather than the internal-combustion engines found in MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. The short races are designed around the performance and energy limits of battery-powered racing.
The series initially used Energica Ego Corsa motorcycles supplied by Energica Motor Company. Ducati became the single official manufacturer from 2023, and the competition was promoted from World Cup status to the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship that same year. “MotoE” remains the concise and commonly used name.
A common mix-up is treating MotoE as a generic nickname for any electric motorcycle race. It is specifically the FIM-sanctioned championship associated with MotoGP. The championship’s final listed season was 2025, after which it entered a hiatus, but its name and historical identity remain MotoE.
