What is the name of the MotoGP race held at the Phillip Island circuit?

The story behind the answer

The MotoGP race held at Phillip Island is the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The event takes place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, near Ventnor in Victoria, Australia. Phillip Island is famous for its fast, flowing layout, coastal setting and strong winds, all of which make the Australian round distinctive on the MotoGP calendar.

The circuit hosted the first Australian motorcycle Grand Prix that counted toward the world championship in 1989. After a two-year absence, the event returned to Phillip Island in 1997 and became a regular late-season fixture. The circuit is 4.448 kilometres long and has 12 turns.

The name can be confused with the circuit’s own title, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. “Pacific Grand Prix” was a separate event name used at other venues, while “Island Grand Prix” and “Victorian Grand Prix” are not the official MotoGP race names.
