What is the name of the metro system serving Caracas, the capital of Venezuela?
Answer
Caracas Metro
Answer
Caracas Metro
The metro system serving Venezuela’s capital is the Caracas Metro, the city’s principal rapid-transit railway.
The first section opened in 1983, giving Caracas a high-capacity rail connection through its densely populated urban core. The network was built in stages, with Line 1 forming the main east-west spine and later lines extending service toward southwestern and southeastern districts. It is operated by C.A. Metro de Caracas and is supported by feeder services such as Metrobús.
A common mix-up involves Los Teques Metro. Los Teques is a separate suburban metro system linking the city of Los Teques with Caracas, although it connects to the Caracas network at Las Adjuntas and has been operated by the same company. Valencia Metro and Maracaibo Metro are associated with other Venezuelan cities, so neither is the metro of the national capital.
Caracas’s transport system also includes Metrocable aerial cableways and other rail services. Those connected modes can make the overall network appear larger, but the conventional urban railway in the capital is specifically called the Caracas Metro.
