What is the name of the mansion where Gianni Versace was killed?
Answer
Casa Casuarina
Answer
Casa Casuarina
Gianni Versace was killed outside Casa Casuarina, the Miami mansion also known as the Versace Mansion.
Located at 1116 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Florida, Casa Casuarina was built in 1930 in the Mediterranean Revival style. Its first owner was Alden Freeman, a wealthy philanthropist and heir to a Standard Oil fortune. Before becoming associated with Versace, the property had also operated as an apartment building under names including the Amsterdam Palace and the Christopher Columbus Apartments.
Gianni Versace purchased the mansion in 1992 for $2.95 million and restored its original name. He added lavish interiors, extensive gardens and the famous Thousand Mosaic Pool, decorated with thousands of 24-karat gold tiles. In 1993, he also bought the neighbouring Revere Hotel and converted its site into additional outdoor space.
On 15 July 1997, Versace was fatally shot on the mansion’s front steps by Andrew Cunanan. The property was later sold, renovated and reopened in 2015 as The Villa Casa Casuarina, a luxury boutique hotel. “Versace Mansion” is therefore a nickname, not the building’s formal original name.
