What is the name of the magical ship of the god Freyr?

The story behind the answer

The magical ship of the god Freyr is Skíðblaðnir.

In Norse mythology, Skíðblaðnir is described as the finest of ships. The dwarfs known as the Sons of Ivaldi created it, along with treasures such as Odin’s spear Gungnir and Sif’s golden hair. Freyr received the ship as one of his gifts.

Skíðblaðnir had extraordinary practical abilities. It could always find a favorable wind and sail wherever its crew needed to go. It was also large enough to carry all the gods, together with their weapons and equipment, yet it could be folded up like cloth and placed in a pocket when not in use.

A common mix-up is Naglfar, another famous Norse ship. Naglfar is associated with the events of Ragnarök and is described as enormous, but it is not Freyr’s magical vessel. Skíðblaðnir appears in the Poetic Edda and in Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda, both preserved in medieval Icelandic manuscripts.
