What is the name of the left-field wall at Fenway Park?

The story behind the answer

What is the name of the left-field wall at Fenway Park? It is called the Green Monster.

The Green Monster is Fenway Park’s famous left-field wall and a defining feature of the Boston Red Sox home stadium. It stands about 37 feet high and is unusually close to home plate down the left-field line, making the park’s hitting conditions very different from those at many other MLB venues.

The wall was part of Fenway’s original 1912 construction. It was covered with tin and concrete in 1934, and the modern green color was not applied until 1947. For much of its history, the structure was simply called “the wall,” with “Green Monster” becoming established later.

Its height prevents many deep line drives from becoming home runs, but rebounds often produce doubles. The wall also contains Fenway’s manually operated scoreboard, while seats were added on top in 2003. Fans sometimes confuse it with “Pesky’s Pole,” which is the right-field foul pole.
