What is the name of the largest volcano in the Solar System, located on Mars?

The story behind the answer

Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in the Solar System and is located on Mars. It rises about 22 kilometres above the surrounding plains, making it nearly two and a half times as high as Mount Everest above sea level.

The volcano is a shield volcano, built by many eruptions of fluid basaltic lava. Mars has lower surface gravity than Earth and lacks Earth’s active plate-tectonic recycling, allowing volcanic structures to grow exceptionally large in one region.

Olympus Mons has a broad footprint roughly 600 kilometres across. Its summit contains a complex caldera formed when underground magma reservoirs emptied and the roof collapsed.

Ascraeus Mons is also a huge Martian volcano, but it is smaller. Mount Sharp is a central mountain inside Gale Crater, not the largest volcano in the Solar System.
