What is the name of the island settlement where the Vikings live in the How to Train Your Dragon films?

The story behind the answer

Berk is the island settlement where the Vikings live in the How to Train Your Dragon films.

Berk is the home of Hiccup, Stoick, Gobber, Astrid, and the other Viking characters introduced in the trilogy. At the start of the first film, its residents view dragons as enemies, but Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless gradually changes the community’s relationship with them.

The island develops across the films from a traditional Viking village into a society where people and dragons live together. Berk therefore functions as more than a backdrop: its changing culture reflects the franchise’s central idea that understanding can replace fear.

Berk should not be confused with Dragon’s Edge, the outpost associated with the television series, or the Hidden World, the concealed dragon sanctuary introduced in the third film. New Berk is the later settlement established after the original home becomes unsafe.
