What is the name of the Inca creator god?

The story behind the answer

The Inca creator god was Viracocha.

Viracocha was regarded in Inca and pre-Inca traditions as the creator of the world and the supreme deity. Myths describe him creating the heavens, earth, sun, moon, stars, time, and humanity. He was also associated with the sea, and some accounts say that after completing creation he disappeared into the waters.

In creation stories, Viracocha is often portrayed as a civilizing figure who shaped human communities and taught people how to live. Later chroniclers recorded several names and titles for him, including Ticsi Viracocha and Pachayachachic, meaning “teacher” or “maker of the world.” The famous name Kon-Tiki is also connected with one of his traditional titles, although modern interpretations vary.

Viracocha is commonly mixed up with Inti, the sun god. Inti became especially prominent in the official religion of the Inca state, while Viracocha retained the broader role of creator and supreme deity. Spanish chroniclers sometimes translated Viracocha using Christian language, which influenced later descriptions of his status and personality.
