What is the name of the hobbit who finds the One Ring in 'The Hobbit'?

The story behind the answer

In The Hobbit, the hobbit who finds the One Ring is Bilbo Baggins. During his journey beneath the Misty Mountains, Bilbo discovers the ring in a dark underground passage and takes it without initially knowing its true identity.

Bilbo is the central character of J. R. R. Tolkien's 1937 novel. He finds the ring after becoming separated from the dwarves and encountering Gollum, its former keeper. The ring helps Bilbo become invisible, allowing him to escape Gollum and later assist Thorin Oakenshield's company.

A common mix-up is Frodo Baggins, who carries the ring in The Lord of the Rings. Frodo inherits it from Bilbo years later, but he does not find it. Gandalf is the wizard who eventually recognizes that Bilbo's ring is the One Ring forged by Sauron. Samwise Gamgee also carries it briefly, but neither character is its original finder in Tolkien's main narrative.
