Max is the Grinch’s loyal dog and reluctant helper in Dr. Seuss’s 1957 book How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Although the Grinch treats him harshly, Max remains devoted and helps carry out the plan to steal Christmas from Whoville.
Max is often remembered most vividly from the 1966 animated television special, where he wears antlers and is forced to act as the Grinch’s reindeer. In that adaptation, the Grinch’s sleigh is pulled by Max after the dog is dressed up to resemble a reindeer.
