What is the name of the Golden Hall of Rohan?

The Golden Hall of Rohan is called Meduseld. It stands at the summit of the hill in Edoras, the capital of Rohan, and serves as the royal hall of the Rohirrim.

Meduseld is the residence of Rohan's king and household, as well as a place for councils, ceremonies, feasts, and formal audiences. In The Lord of the Rings, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli visit the hall while seeking King Théoden's help against Saruman. Théoden's adviser Gríma Wormtongue has influenced the king there before Gandalf breaks that spell of fear and manipulation.

The name is drawn from Old English meduseld, meaning a mead hall. Tolkien modeled much of Rohan's culture and language on Anglo-Saxon England, and Meduseld echoes Heorot, the great hall in the Old English poem Beowulf. Its thatched roof appears golden in the distance, explaining the familiar description “Golden Hall.”

Meduseld is often confused with Edoras, but the two are different: Edoras is the city, while Meduseld is the royal hall within it. The Hornburg is another Rohan landmark, a fortress in Helm's Deep.
