Grawp is the giant who is Hagrid’s half-brother. Hagrid discovers him during his mission to contact giants and brings him back to the Forbidden Forest near Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Grawp is the son of Hagrid’s giantess mother, Fridwulfa, making him Hagrid’s maternal half-brother. Unlike Hagrid, who is half-giant because his father was human, Grawp is a full giant. He is initially enormous, aggressive, and difficult to control, and Hagrid keeps him hidden because the Ministry of Magic already views Hagrid’s giant heritage with suspicion.
Hagrid asks Harry and Hermione to help look after Grawp when he is threatened with losing his position at Hogwarts. Grawp gradually becomes less hostile and later helps during the Battle of Hogwarts, where his size and strength make him a powerful ally. The other choices are creatures associated with Hogwarts, but none is Hagrid’s giant relative: Buckbeak is a hippogriff, Fluffy is a three-headed dog, and Fang is Hagrid’s boarhound.
