What is the name of the frog who is the leader of the Muppets?

The story behind the answer

The frog who leads the Muppets is Kermit the Frog.

Created by Jim Henson, Kermit first appeared in 1955 on the local television program Sam and Friends. He became the central host and practical problem-solver of The Muppet Show, where he tried to keep the chaotic performers and backstage disasters under control. That role made him the Muppets’ de facto leader and most recognizable representative.

Kermit is also closely associated with Sesame Street, where he appeared as a reporter and performer before and alongside the Muppets’ later film and television success. His best-known songs include “Bein’ Green” and “Rainbow Connection,” the latter introduced in The Muppet Movie in 1979.

A common mix-up is confusing Kermit’s leadership with his romantic relationship with Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy is a major star, but Kermit is the character who usually organizes the troupe and anchors its stories.
