What is the name of the first Pokémon region introduced in the video games?

The story behind the answer

Kanto is the first Pokémon region introduced in the video games.

Kanto is the setting of Pocket Monsters Red and Green and their later versions and remakes. It contains locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Saffron City, and the Pokémon League, where the player eventually challenges the Elite Four and Champion.

The region’s name comes from the real-world Kantō region of Japan, which includes Tokyo. Pokémon’s fictional geography borrows recognizable features from Japanese regions while adding routes, caves, forests, and facilities designed for gameplay.

Kanto is often confused with Johto because Pokémon Gold and Silver let players return to Kanto after completing the main story. Johto was the second-generation region, whereas Kanto is the original setting and home of Professor Oak.
