Pokémon: Indigo League
Answer
Pokémon: Indigo League
The first Pokémon anime season is Pokémon: Indigo League.
In Japan, the season originally aired simply as Pocket Monsters and premiered on April 1, 1997. It follows Ash Ketchum as he begins his journey from Pallet Town, receives Pikachu from Professor Oak, and travels through the Kanto region.
The English-language title Indigo League refers to Ash’s attempt to challenge the Pokémon League on the Indigo Plateau. The season introduced recurring characters including Misty, Brock, and the Team Rocket trio Jessie, James, and Meowth.
The season has 82 episodes in the Japanese version and 80 in the English version. It is sometimes called the first Pokémon series or The Beginning, but Indigo League is the canonical English season title used in episode listings and home-video releases.
