Kanto is the first main-series Pokémon region.
Kanto is the setting of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, as well as their later remakes Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. It contains locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Pewter City, and the Pokémon League, giving the first generation its recognizable journey structure.
The region’s name and geography are based on Japan’s real Kanto region, which includes Tokyo and surrounding areas. This real-world inspiration is easy to miss because Pokémon presents Kanto as a fictional land with its own towns, routes, Gyms, and creatures.
Kanto is also the setting of the first anime season and many later stories. It is sometimes mistaken for the entire Pokémon world, but it is only one region among many, including Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, and Paldea.
