What is the name of the first car produced by Porsche?

The story behind the answer

The Porsche 356 was the first car produced as a Porsche production model.

Ferry Porsche and designer Erwin Komenda developed the 356 after World War II, building on mechanical ideas and components related to the Volkswagen Beetle. The first prototype, called the 356/1, was completed in 1948 with a mid-mounted engine. Production cars used a rear-engine layout instead.

Early 356 production took place in Gmünd, Austria, where Porsche built approximately 50 cars from 1948 to 1949. Production moved to Zuffenhausen, Germany, in 1950, and the model continued through several versions: the original car, 356 A, 356 B, and 356 C.

The 356 is sometimes confused with the Porsche 911 because the 911 became Porsche’s defining sports car. However, the 911 arrived later, debuting in the 1960s as the 356’s successor. Porsche produced roughly 76,000 examples of the 356 before production ended in 1965.
