Answer
The Final Empire
Answer
The Final Empire
The first book in Brandon Sanderson's original Mistborn trilogy is The Final Empire. It was published by Tor Books in 2006 and begins the story of a rebellion against the seemingly immortal Lord Ruler.
The novel is set in a grim empire divided between the ruling nobility and the oppressed skaa. Its distinctive magic system, Allomancy, allows certain people to gain powers by burning metals. Most Allomancers use one metal, while rare Mistborn can burn many different metals. The plot follows the half-skaa Mistborn Kelsier and the young street thief Vin as they assemble a crew and plan to overthrow the Final Empire.
The next two books are The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages. Readers sometimes confuse the series' book title with its setting: the Final Empire is both the name of the regime and the title's key phrase. Later Mistborn eras expand the world beyond this original trilogy.
