What is the name of the fictional world created by C.S. Lewis in his children’s books?

The story behind the answer

Narnia is the fictional world created by C.S. Lewis in The Chronicles of Narnia.

The seven-book series begins with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in publication order and spans the creation, history, and final destruction of the world. Narnia contains talking animals, humans, dwarfs, fauns, giants, and other creatures. Its greatest lion, Aslan, is the central recurring figure.

The name Narnia can refer both to the world as a whole and, in some contexts, to the kingdom within that world. This distinction can cause confusion because the books’ geography includes many other lands, including Archenland, Calormen, and the eastern regions beyond the sea.

Lewis published the Narnia books between 1950 and 1956. The Magician’s Nephew, written later in the sequence’s publication history, describes Narnia’s creation and is often read first in chronological reading orders.
