What is the name of the fictional newspaper in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series?

The fictional newspaper in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series is The Daily Prophet.

The Daily Prophet is the principal newspaper of the British wizarding community. It reports political developments, public events, crimes, and controversies, although its coverage is not always reliable or independent. The paper’s treatment of Harry and Albus Dumbledore changes as the Ministry of Magic attempts to control the public narrative.

The newspaper is delivered by owl, reflecting the communication system used by witches and wizards in the series. Its articles provide readers with information about events outside Hogwarts and show how the wider magical society responds to danger.

The Quibbler is a different wizarding publication edited by Xenophilius Lovegood. It is known for unusual stories and viewpoints, and it eventually publishes material supporting Harry’s account of Voldemort’s return. The Daily Prophet therefore should not be confused with The Quibbler, even though both are newspapers or magazines in Rowling’s fictional world.
