Narnia is the fictional land ruled by Queen Jadis in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
In the novel, Jadis is known as the White Witch and has imposed a long winter on Narnia. The four Pevensie children enter the country through a wardrobe and become involved in its struggle against her rule. Aslan’s return marks the turning point in the story.
Narnia is the central setting of Lewis’s seven-book Chronicles of Narnia series, though other lands appear in later books. Archenland and Calormen are neighboring countries in the wider fictional world, while Charn is the ruined world visited in The Magician’s Nephew.
The White Witch is sometimes called a queen of Narnia without noting that her rule is presented as an oppressive occupation. The novel was published in 1950 and was the first Narnia book released to readers.
