Manneken Pis is the famous bronze statue of a small urinating boy in Brussels, Belgium.
The present statue was created by the Brabantine sculptor Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder in 1619. It stands near the historic center of Brussels and has become one of the city’s best-known landmarks. The figure is only about 61 centimeters tall, making its fame strikingly disproportionate to its size.
The statue has repeatedly been stolen or damaged, so the original is kept in the Brussels City Museum and a replica occupies the outdoor fountain site. Manneken Pis is also associated with a large collection of costumes, many donated by organizations and visiting groups.
Visitors sometimes confuse it with Jeanneke Pis, a later statue of a squatting girl, or Zinneke Pis, a bronze dog. Those are separate Brussels sculptures.
