The Dwarf who is part of the Fellowship of the Ring is Gimli, son of Glóin. He represents the Dwarves of Middle-earth in the company formed to carry the One Ring toward Mordor.
Gimli arrives at the Council of Elrond in Rivendell, where the Fellowship is created. He initially carries the long-standing hostility between Dwarves and Elves, but his friendship with Legolas gradually becomes one of the story’s most memorable relationships.
During the quest, Gimli fights at Moria, Helm’s Deep, the Pelennor Fields, and the Black Gate. He uses an axe and is known for his courage, blunt humour, and fierce loyalty. After the War of the Ring, he becomes Lord of the Glittering Caves near Helm’s Deep.
Balin, Thorin, and Glóin are also important Dwarves, but none is a member of the Fellowship. Glóin is Gimli’s father, while Thorin leads the Company of Dwarves in The Hobbit. Gimli is the only Dwarf among the Fellowship’s nine original companions.
